Guidance Program and Services

 Schoolwide Guidance Program:

Every student at Flaherty Elementary attends a weekly guidance class with his/her homeroom. This class is forty-five minutes long and includes direct instruction, pair-sharing, small group activities, and role playing.

Our school's guidance curriculum is based on the Second Step program by the Committee for Children.  This research-based program is designed to increase students' school success and decrease problem behaviors by promoting social-emotional competence and self-regulation. It teaches skills that strengthen students' ability to learn, have empathy, manage emotions, and solve problems.

* Click on your child's grade level button below to view what your child is learning in guidance class throughout the school year.  Also make sure to check out the "Homelinks" for each lesson.  You can complete these activities with your child to reinforce the skills they are learning at school.
